IAG and the United Nations-endorsed Principles of Sustainable Insurance (PSI) initiative announce the release of the NICTA-developed Global Risk Map.

Published on June 25, 2015

The Global Risk Map highlights the social and economic devastation caused by cyclones, floods, earthquakes and related perils over the past 115 years, and identifies the areas of greatest vulnerability to these natural hazards.

The Global Risk Map uses Terria™ technology, built by the team at NICTA. The underlying platform technology allows the user to benefit from the masses of datasets related to the project such as disaster response resources and insurance penetration and density.

Terria™ maps allow users to search spatial data catalogues through all major web browsers. It is interoperable with a wide range of geographic information systems (GIS) back-end services and is Open Geospatial Consortium (OSG) compliant. Its versatility and sophisticated operating experience is a seamless fit for the Global Resilience Project.

Terria™ map technology and the Global Risk Map will play an integral part for future phases of the Global Risk Project, serving as a vital platform for future advocacy.
