Research Themes
Our themes are the engine room of our research. They are the groups of our ICT capabilities. Many diverse real world problems have solutions that share the same underlying technology platforms that draw on these capabilities.
Embedded systems will generate the “smart products” of the future, from clever cars to clever farms. Embedded systems is all about embedding or hiding smart ICT into everyday objects and processes.
Across nearly every industry sector ICT has enabled the systematic gathering of large quantities of data. There remains the challenge of making sense of it all. From financial transactions, to document analysis, to problems arising in life sciences and environmental management there are many challenges to make use of the data gathered.
Many ICT problems are difficult because of their complexity. Examples include the management and diagnosis of large systems (such as a power grid), the management of traffic in a city the size of Sydney and the construction of reliable large software systems.
Networked Systems are technologies which connect the “smart products” of Embedded Systems to form “smarter networks”. These networked systems differ from the current systems in their scale, the technologies used to interconnect them, and the way they can be used.
