Vacancies/Projects for students
PhD students
We are always looking for good PhD. students.
If you are interested please
contact us.
The DMiST-project
has several challenging PhD projects that includes both theoretical research
and application oriented research.
The students are encouraged to work closely with the other members of the
DMiST-group.
Honours students / Masters students / Summer Scholarship Program
Below you will find the announced description of our projects for students:
Data representing the movement of objects is becoming increasingly available because of technological advances
in position-aware devices such as GPS receivers, navigation systems and mobile phones.
The increasing number
of such devices will lead to huge spatio-temporal data volumes documenting the movement of animals, vehicles, or people.
The goal of this project is to uncover patterns in such sets that will increase the knowledge of group behaviour and migration.
One of the main objectives is to produce a data mining toolbox that easily can be extended and tailored to fit new applications.
It is a new NICTA-project in collaboration with several research institutes both in Australia and internationally.
The project will involve developing algorithms for querying and searching for patterns in large data sets
(mainly using tools in the areas of data mining and computational geometry),
as well as programming research prototypes of these algorithms.
