Gastric Cancer

Project Leader: Dr. Alex Boussioutas

Peter Mac Laboratory Head: Prof. D Bowtell.

The aim is to develop predictive models for survival and re-occurrence of gastric cancer. This project will analyze in house (PeterMac) data as well as data made available through Gastric Cancer Consortium (involving research researchers from PeterMac, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan).  This consortium allows significant expansion of data, to create a world-competitive dataset for this disease, and allow validation of key predictions.

In this context there is a significant push to incorporate textual data in main-stream of modeling from primarily numerical micro array expression data. From NICTA’s perspective, this is an excellent opportunity to enter the international scene, including Singapore, which has made biotechnology one of its three priority technology areas.  It also presents an opportunity to develop novel approaches to meta-analysis of genomic datasets.
