Computer Vision

The NICTA Computer Vision group focuses in the areas of video understanding and analysis and machine learning in computer vision.

  • Automap creates digital maps from georeferenced video data.
  • Spectral Imaging combines a broad range of technologies to “see” beyond the visible spectrum and addressing the spectral image understanding problem making use of structural and statistical pattern recognition and computer vision techniques.
  • Visual Processing for the Bionic Eye carries out research and development of visual processing for low vision devices and the bionic eye.
  • Advanced Surveillance develops faster and more robust methods to analyse visual information.
  • Smart Transport and Roads project uses advanced information and communications technologies to help solve the world's urban traffic congestion problems.
  • Bionic Vision Australia is a national consortium of researchers working together to develop a bionic eye that can restore sight to people with particular forms of vision impairment.

The Computer Vision group will also look to grow in the area of medical image analysis.
