Welcome to the Decision Support for Incident Management (DSIM) project.
DSIM is a natural but significant extension to the STaR-UI project and undertaken by the same project team. DSIM aims to research and develop core technologies for a new generation of human computer interfaces that support critical decision-making for users of large and complex information systems. Built on our experience and expertise in Cognitive Load Theory, Cognitive System Engineering and Multimodal Interfaces, DSIM will significantly improve the way people use computers and the way computers assist users.
The first concrete application of DSIM is in Traffic Incident Management. DSIM technologies promise to contribute to notable reduction of road congestion due to traffic incidents, bringing significant benefits to the economy, road user community, and environment. It is estimated that a reduction of 3% annually in incident-linked congestion by 2013 would reduce the total social cost to the NSW economy by over AU$30million annually. DSIM technologies can also be applied to other incident management systems, such as bushfire response, emergency and crisis management.
