- [2007-present] Senior Researcher (2011-pres.) / Researcher (2007-2011), Software Systems Research Group – Sydney/ATP (previous research group names: Managing Complexity, Empirical Software Engineering), NICTA (National ICT Australia) (Sydney, Australia): Conducting research and some software development on technologies on business-driven IT management, as related to implementation of business processes with service-oriented architectures and cloud computing. Contributed to the following major NICTA projects: 1) (2007-2008) LIXI Business Processes and Technologies; 2) (2009-2011) Business Adaptation and Interoperation (particularly the Business-IT Adaptation technology); 3) (2010-pres.) Adaptive Cloud Technologies; 4) (2011-pres.) Continuous Availability for Cloud Based Applications. One of my main achievements was the development of several innovative algorithms that make IT system management decision according to various business strategies for maximization of diverse financial and non-financial business value metrics, definition of new versions of the WS-Policy4MASC language to enable specification of management policies used in these algorithms, and co-design of the corresponding MiniZnMASC middleware for policy-driven management of service-oriented and cloud computing systems. Conducted research and some software development on various other aspects of advanced distributed computing and its business applications. Actively collaborated with industry partners, such as Australian companies involved in various aspects of lending (mortgages). Presented several tutorials and seminars about service-oriented systems and their management to industry audience. After successful first 2 years, the initial limited-term (3-year) contract converted into a permanent position. Promoted to Senior Researcher in mid 2011. Awarded for the quality of student supervision. Research results published in refereed papers or are in preparation for patenting and subsequent refereed publication.
- [2010-present] Honorary Associate, School of Information Technologies, The University of Sydney (Sydney, Australia): Collaborating in research projects on cloud computing, performance analysis of complex distributed systems and in supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Results are in preparation for refereed publication.
- [2007-present] Conjoint Lecturer (2010-pres.) / Visiting Fellow (2007-2009), School of Computer Science and Engineering, The University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia): Collaborating in research projects (same as NICTA, listed above) and in supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Results published in refereed papers or are in preparation for refereed publication.
- [2010] Academic Visitor (for 1 month), Hewlett-Packard Laboratories (Bristol, UK): Presented results of own research projects and explored possibilities for joint research in the area of cloud computing.
- [2005-2010] Adjunct Research Professor, Department of Computer Science, The University of Western Ontario (London, Canada): Collaborated on research projects related to the management of distributed computing systems. The major projects were on business-driven management of Web Services and Web Service compositions and on management of Web Services executing in mobile and pervasive computing systems. Results published in refereed papers or are in preparation for refereed publication.
- [2006] Research Officer (for 8 months), School of Computer Science and Engineering, The University of New South Wales (Sydney, Australia): Contributed to a research project on building policy-driven middleware for QoS-aware and adaptive Web Services composition, called Manageable and Adaptable Service Compositions (MASC). Developed novel WS-Policy4MASC language for the formal specification of monitoring and management policies for business-driven management of Web Services and Web Service compositions. The project was sponsored by Microsoft Australia and the Australian Research Council (ARC). Results published in several refereed papers.
- [2005-2006] Assistant Professor (tenure-track), Department of Software Engineering, Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Canada): Researched business-driven management of Web Services and Web Service compositions and started development of appropriate management algorithms, protocols, and infrastructures. On the other hand, wrapped-up development of the Web Service Offerings Language (WSOL) and the corresponding Web Service Offerings Infrastructure (WSOI). Results published in several refereed papers. Supervised undergraduate research students. Taught undergraduate software engineering courses.
- [2004-2005] NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) Post-Doctoral Fellow, Department of Computer Science, The University of Western Ontario (London, Canada): Researched management of Web Services executing in mobile and/or embedded environments. Developed new version of the Web Service Offerings Language (WSOL) for the formal specification of context and other mobility management information, as well as new version of the corresponding monitoring and management Web Service Offerings Infrastructure (WSOI). Results published in several refereed papers.
- [1999-2004] Research Assistant, Network Management and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada): Researched management of Web Services and their compositions. Developed novel Web Service Offerings Language (WSOL) for the formal specification of constraints and contracts for Web Services, as well as the corresponding monitoring and management Web Service Offerings Infrastructure (WSOI). Results published in several refereed papers and the Ph.D. dissertation. Assisted in network, system, and WWW page administration.
- [1996-1998] Student Researcher (1997-1998) / Intern (1996-1997), OpenView Software (a.k.a. Network and Systems Management) Division, Hewlett-Packard Company (Boeblingen, Germany): Developed various network and system management software, such as compilers for the Managed Object Format (MOF) language of the Common Information Model (CIM) standard for Web-Based Enterprise Management (WBEM). Contract extended two times and resulted in the M.Sc. thesis. Non-proprietary results of the M.Sc. thesis published in a refereed paper.
- [1996] Research Assistant (for 8 months), Computer Graphics and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Lab, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, University of Nis (Serbia, Yugoslavia): Developed GIS software (tasks in computer graphics and networking) and WWW presentations. This GIS software has been used by commercial customers. Results published in several refereed papers.
