Professor Aruna Seneviratne came to NICTA from University of NSW where he was Professor of Telecommunications in the School of Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering. 

Currently he is the Australian Technology Park Laboratory Director and Education Director . He holds the Mahanakorn Chair of Telecommunication at the School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales. 

Professor Seneviratne has over 15 years of telecommunication and computer systems engineering experience. His research interests include mobile data communication systems, in particular the development of mechanisms for managing the quality of service in wireless Internet environments.

Professor Seneviratne received his Bachelor of Engineering with honours in Electrical Engineering from Middlesex Polytechnic in 1979.  He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Bath, UK, 1982.

Since graduating Professor Seneviratne has had rich international experience, having held academic appointments at the University of Bradford, UK; Curtin University and the Australian Defence Force Academy, University of New South Wales.

Outside academia, Professor Seneviratne has worked at the Standard Telecommunication Laboratories, Muirhead & Co, in the UK, and for Telecom Australia.

He has also held visiting appointments in France at the MASI Laboratory at the University of Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris, and at the Rodeo Group at the National French Research Establishment, INRIA, Nice.  In addition, he has been a consultant to numerous organisations including the Roads and Traffic Authority NSW, Telstra, Vodafone, Inmarsat, Xantic, and Ericsson.
