Dr Phil Robertson is Chief Operating Officer at NICTA and has over 25 years experience in technology research, development and commercialisation in both the private and public sectors.

Before joining NICTA he was Director of Canon’s Australian R&D subsidiary, CISRA (Canon Information Systems Research Australia).  During his 10 years at CISRA the company grew to become one of Australia’s largest multinational R&D subsidiaries (over 300 staff) with its technologies successfully integrated into Canon’s global products.  Prior to CISRA, he held research, program and strategy management positions at CSIRO, Australia’s largest scientific and industrial research organisation.

Phil is a member of CSIRO’s Information, Communications and Services Sector Advisory Council, and the Tasmanian ICT Centre Research Investment Advisory Council, and was a member of the Australian Government ICT Advisory Board from 2004-2006.  He has contributed to many university, government and industry association committees, advisory boards and judging panels over the years.

He has published widely in imaging and visualisation, and served on the editorial boards of several international journals and conferences.  He has been guest speaker at a range of research, industry and other forums, and has been an advisor for Australian and international research initiatives.  Phil holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Australian National University, is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
