Summer Scholarship Available |

Between November and February each year, NICTA offers research internships for undergraduate students. If you are thinking about getting into research, this is a great way to try it out. The scholarships last for 10 weeks and pay a total of $4000. During this time, you work on a small research project alongside a NICTA researcher. See the official NICTA page for more details. The projects for 2008/2009 will be up on that web site soon. If you are interested in AI, here is the project that I will be supervising: Summer Scholarship in Automated Planning (a subfield of AI)In this project you will help improve an automated planning system. Planning systems are used in a wide range of applications, such as finding the best route between two locations or making a robot decide how to move objects with its hands. Planning is hard, which means that usually only rather small problems can be solved by an automated system. In this project, we will explore a new technique that identifies certain intermediate goals that must be accomplished during any plan. This knowledge can help us make the search for a solution more efficient, and thus allow us to solve larger problems. Students interested in this project should be familiar with basic AI concepts like heuristic search, or be willing to familiarise themselves with them before the start of the project. The project includes programming in C++ and optionally Python. For more information, contact me by email. |
