David Karpin

Mr. Karpin is a Company Director and Consultant.

 

He is Chairman of the Board of Warrnambool Cheese & Butter Factory Ltd.  He is a Deputy Chairman of Racing Victoria  Ltd. He is a Director of National ICT Australia Limited and the Melbourne Business School Limited. He is also a Member of the Audit Committee of the Defence Materiel Organisation. He is also Chairman of the National Centre for Dairy Education Steering Group.

 

Mr. Karpin retired in March, 1996 from RTZ-CRA after a 22 year career. His final role was as Group Executive - Economic Resources with CRA Ltd. In this role he was responsible for finance, corporate strategy, accounting, taxation, legal, economics, secretarial and headquarters administration. He was a member of CRA’s Executive Committee. He held that role from 1992 to 1996.

 

His previous roles with CRA included 6 years as Managing Director of Argyle Diamonds, Commercial Director of Hamersley Iron and Executive Manager - Commercial with Bougainville Copper Limited.

 

Mr. Karpin was also a Member of the Council of Curtin University and an Adjunct Professor of Management at the Australian National University.

 

In addition to his roles at CRA, Mr. Karpin was the Chairman of the Australian Government’s Industry Task Force on Leadership and Management Skills which published its Report “Enterprising Nation: Renewing Australia’s Managers to meet the Challenges of the Asia Pacific Century” in April, 1995 after three years research, review and analysis. His interest in education and training issues continues.

 

Mr. Karpin is married (to Dorothy) and has two adult children (Dianne and Stephen). His educational background is in accounting and finance. His first degree is a B.Com (Hons) degree from the University of New South Wales. He also holds an MBA degree from the University of Rochester (USA) and in 1991 undertook Harvard University’s Advanced Management Program. In 1997 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by the University of Newcastle.

 

Mr Karpin was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List in 1997.
