Hanna Suominen, PhD, (Publications with Full Text PDFs, CV , personal web-page, interviews: e.g., Hospitaali 2/2010 p. 14, Spark 31 Dec 2009,Tekniikka & Talous 2009 Dec 10) is an experienced researcher, coordinator and teacher on health and wellness technologies. Her research interests are related to developing and evaluating methods and applications of machine learning, mathematical modeling, and human language technologies.

Hanna's collaborative research has lead to real-life applications for health and wellness. She has contributed to numerous successful research, commercialisation and teaching projects with academic, industrial, and governmental partners in Australia and Europe. Her merits also include several collaborative and personal research and commercialisation grants (e.g., Academy of Finland; Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation, Tekes; Nordforsk; TULI funding for commercialization of research results in universities; University of Turku Foundation).

Hanna has nearly 40 scientific, peer-reviewed publications, two best paper awarded contributions, a membership in the team that scored the third prize in the International Medical Natural Language Processing Challenge 2007, and a Venture Cup 2007-2008 award. Her doctoral dissertation on machine learning and clinical text was approved with honours of belonging to the ten percent elite of the field internationally.

Currently, Hanna works as a machine learning researcher in the business team of health at NICTA, Australia’s largest organisation dedicated to information and communication technologies (ICT) research. She also holds an adjunct research fellowship in the Australian National University, College of Engineering and Computer Science.
