Q:    How long has NICTA been in Australia?

A:   We were established in 2002 by the Australian Government as part of the Backing Australia’s Ability initiative.

Q:   Does NICTA only have a Sydney office? Where are the offices located?

A:   We currently have offices in Sydney (Australian Technology Park and Kensington), Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and Adelaide.

Q:   What are the main themes/programs at NICTA?

A:   We have 4 major research themes: Making Sense of Data, Managing Complexity, Networked Systems and Embedded Systems.

Q:   How many projects are currently running at NICTA?

A:    All current projects are listed here.

Q:    How many employees does NICTA have?

A:   We have approximately 700 staff and students spread across our locations.

Q:   Where does NICTA receive its funding?

A:    We are funded by the Australian Government through the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy , the Australian Research Council through the ICT Centre of Excellence program and funding members and partners

Q:    Can I apply for more than one role?

A:   Yes you can, but we would recommend applying for the role that best matches your skills and abilities.

Q:    Do all roles require a PhD?

A:    No. Job requirements will vary depending on the position. NICTA has roles for all levels of experience.

Q:    How long will the interview process take?

A:    It varies depending on the role. Usually the process takes 3-4 weeks, but if you have a competing offer and need to make a quick decision, please let your recruitment officer know and they will do what they can to make sure you have the information you need in order to make a decision.

Q:   What format do the interviews take?

A:   Usually interviews are done in front of a panel consisting of the hiring manager, potential colleagues, Human Resources and someone from an external business unit. The interviews are split into Research, Technical, Industry/Commercialisation and Behavioural.

Q:   How long will the interview take?

A:   Interviews usually take between 1 to 2 hours.

Q:   Are there activities outside my role that I can be involved in?

A:   Sure. We have a number of committees you can join including a Social Committee, Occupation Health and Safety Committee and Diversity Committee.

Q:   What is the career progression like at NICTA?

A:   At NICTA we encourage employees to develop their skills and think about how you want to progress in your careers. We have processes in place for promotion as well as transition between projects or business areas.
