NICTA's Security and Environment Business Team is providing innovative security solutions for people, resources and critical systems.

Safeguarding Australia from terrorism, crime, invasive diseases and pests, strengthening our understanding of Australia’s place in the region and the world, and securing our infrastructure, particularly with respect to our digital systems. - An Environmentally Sustainable Australia
Transforming the way we utilise our land, water, mineral and energy resources through a better understanding of human and environmental systems and the use of new technologies.
This is done with a view to addressing industry problems in Defence security, homeland security, biosecurity and national resource security.
Defence Security
NICTA’s capabilities in this area are:

- Software to find underlying key themes and disparate views emerging in group decision making workshops (DSTO Grouputer).
- Cognitive load measurement tools for staff recruitment and performance monitoring (BrainGauge).
- Mobile platforms to support operations in complex electromagnetic environments (DICE).
- Technologies to enable the automatic detection of vessels and potential intrusions into maritime security zones (Vessel Detection).
- Software defined radio for TDOA-based signal detection and geolocation of multiple emitters (SDR Geolocation).

Homeland Security and Biosecurity
